INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATE 1. The application forms received incomplete or not properly filled in by the student or his parents/guardians or received after the prescribed date, shall not be entertained and rejected forthwith without any notice. The candidate should therefore ensure in his/her own interest that application form complete in all respects reaches the Registrar Punjab University, Chandigarh well in advance before the prescribed date otherwise his/her case will be rejected and scholarship awarded to the next eligible candidate without any further notice. 2. The income certificate must be on the prescribed form appended at page 2 of the application should be from the authorities indicate therein. 3. The application may please be filled in neatly and legibly. 4. Any change in the address or course/class or institution of study must be intimate to the Registrar of this University/Director of Public Instruction , Chandigarh Administration, Chandigarh. 5. The scholarship is liable to be cancelled if any information supplied in the application form/declaration /certificate is alter on found to be incorrect or the student becomes or found ineligible for any other ground. 6. MEANS TEST. The payment of scholarship under this scheme will be subject to the following provisions :_ i) Scholarships under the scheme for Post graduate study (viz MA/MSC/Ph.D etc.) will be paid without any consideration of the income of the parents of the candidate. ii) In the case of Graduate course, only these students whose parents have joint family income of Rs.500/or below per month will be eligible for the scholarship. The term Income for the purpose of the means tests under this clause is defined as under :a) Total income of the family should include income only of father and mother and the scholar and of no other member though they may be earning. b) In the case of salaried class, basic pay plus income, if any, from other source and will not include dearness pay allowance like dearness allowance. c) In case of income from sources liable to income tax income computed (after deduction for rebatable items) for purpose of assessment of income tax. d) In case of income no liable to income tax. Such as income from Agriculture etc. then net income that is arrived at after deduction of expenses incurred for earning that income. EXPLANATION I In case of persons drawing income from salary income under clause (a) and clause (b) above, Dearness pay allowance, City compensatory allowance, House Rent allowance or value of rent free accommodation, conveyance allowance and overtime allowance etc., shall not be included in determining the income. Deputation allowance, NCC, Honoraria or Honoraria for undertaking other work, special pay and bonus etc. shall however be treated as income. EXPLANATIONII For the purpose of determining the salary income in clause (a_ and (b) from the basic salary act as deductions for computing the taxable income will be deducted all items which are allowable under the income tax. 7. It may be added for the information that Chandigarh UT Govt. Merit Scholarships are admission only to the students who passed the specified examination from Chandigarh with atleast second division (either privately or through the institution situated at Chandigarh) and pursue their studies in the specified course in the affiliated institutions. 8. The application form complete in all respects must reach the Registrar , Punjab University, Chandigarh 160014, upto 30 th September every year through the Head of the Institution duly recommended.
