How to Get Adhaar Card for Non Resident Indians(NRIs)

Sorry NRI brothers - you will need to visit any Adhaar center in India with relevant documents and apply for it there. The main reason of this is because for Adhaar they need to take biometric scan of your ten fingers and also that of your eye IRIS.

Oh but some centers do have some appointment facility so that you first book your time slot, also confirm it by calling at the center and visit there at the right time.

These documents that you need to carry along with you. Have them ready and no photo is required

Adhaar enrolment will take around 15 minutes per person. Some time is spent in data transmission and verification from the government computer servers.

You should have ready one unique Indian mobile number and email id not used by anyone else. Make sure your email id does not expire. At the least mobile number or email id should be active - you need only when you need to make any changes in the Adhaar.

It is 10 am - 7 p.m. just like Rail servers.

Enrolment Steps at the Center

When you visit Adhaar Enrolment center these steps will be followed:

  • Without an appointment you need to follow up the queue. I suggest you call the center before you visit it.
  • Have ready the filled Adhaar enrolment application form
  • Your 10 fingers impressions( 8 fingers + 2 thumbs) will be collected
  • Photograph of your eye iris will be taken
  • Your original as well as photocopy of the address and ID proofs will be checked and verified. If your passport reflects the correct address then you don't need anything else
  • You'll be given an acknowledgement copy containing enrolment number and date/time of application. These two you'd need to check or regenerate Adhaar online.
  • Remember all the data will be directly fed into UID computers by Central Government.
  • Carefully check the details when they are being fed on the computer screen

Please Note

Soon you should be getting a hard copy of the Adhaar at the registered address. Even if you don't get it - don't worry you can first check your Adhaar card status using the enrolment number and date/time of application in the Acknowledgement. If it has been generated then simply download, print and use it anywhere you want.
